Tropical Storm Allison's remnants dumped very heavy rain in the New Jersey region 13 years ago today, according to the National Weather Service.

Rainfall totals include 10 inches in parts of Pennsylvania, 4.86 inches in Howell and 3.5 inches in Manahawkin, according to the weather service Mount Holly Office.

But far more rain - up to 36.99 inches - fell in Houston, Texas, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Can you imagine the extreme flooding if a storm dumped that much rain in New Jersey?

Our annual average is about 40 to 51 inches, depending on the area, according to the Office of the New Jersey State Climatologist.

Allison also spawned 23 tornadoes, killed 41 people and caused at least $5 billion in damage in the nation, making it the deadliest and costliest U. S. tropical storm on record, according to the hurricane center.
